What the hell have I been doing?

I don't know. But here are some slideshows to shows from the past couple of months.

The Roots
First Ave
July 2nd, 2009

This is one of the best live acts I have ever seen. I hope I will have the energy to hit up their standing gig at the Highline Ballroom in NY in two weeks. Last night in town might be a late one.

Elvis Costello & The Imposters
Taste of Minnesota
July 2nd, 2009

Elvis Costello is a dude I had been dying to see for most of my life. I didn't know about the show until a few days before it took place. I luckily was notified by City Pages's weekly emails. It was the most fun 4th of July I've had yet. I hope I get to see him again someday (but indoors where I can't get sunburned).

No Doubt with Paramore and Bedouin Soundclash
Xcel Energy Center
July 5th, 2009

Before this show, the last time I saw No Doubt was in April of 1996. That was a long fucking time to wait to see them again. I hope their new album kicks some serious ass.

Old 97's
First Ave
July 19th, 2009

This was the third time in 5 months that I got to see Rhett Miller. Seeing him with the full band was a wicked blast as I'd not seen them as a whole since October of 2004. If you haven't check out Old 97's, do it. They are best.

Lily's version of Womanizer kicks Britney's lip syncing ass!!

New York, NY
April 16th, 2009

A brief description of the day of the show:

Jennie and I were both departing for NY on the 16th. We both got up around 3AM to get ready for the flights. I left Fargo at 5AM and met up with Jennie at the MSP airport around 6:30Am. We got our McDonald's breakfast and jumped on the plane to JFK. We arrived around 10:45AM Eastern time. We probably got to Heather's apartment in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn around 1PM. After a couple hours of rest, Jennie and I headed out to Manhattan to meet up with Heather. She couldn't get out of work so we proceeded down to Bleecker Street to explore. We ate at John's Pizza on Bleecker, had a drink at Thunder Jackson's, and then went over to Le Poisson Rouge. The Red Fish is a great venue except for one crucial thing: the bar is a total rip off. I will remember that if I ever go there again. Nine dollars for a Morgan diet??? Funk dat! Rhett kicked ass until about 11:30PM. Jennie and I waitied forever both for and on the L train. I think we got back to Heather's hood around 1:00AM. It was a very long day that went very fast. We had lots of fun!

Fun in Fargo?

*Note: Flickr has been acting weird. Just refresh if the slideshow doesn't work right away.

Dropkick Murphys
The Venue @ The Hub
February 26th, 2009
Fargo, ND

I went to Dropkick Murphys on Thursday night with a co-worker and a few other friends. A good time was had by all. It's nice to not have to drive 3 1/2 hours to have fun. I wish it happened way more.

This Dropkick Murphys show was the first time I have set foot in "The Hub" as it is now called. It used to be called Playmakers until November of 2007. It is all split up into several bars now. It is kind of a cool gimmick. We spent some time in the Monkey Bar section during Civet's and H20's opening sets. Lynn and I ditched the crew to go to the floor for the main show.

Next shows up are Lily Allen in NY and No Doubt in St. Paul. Maybe Howie Day? We'll see how the next week goes. I shall be entertainment starved until then.

You know you are getting old when...

You know you are getting old when you are talking to your parents like they are the children. I feel like an a-hole because I'm telling my Mom she can't have sugar as she is laying in her hospital bed. She is a diabetic in denial. Huge print on the dry erase board says "diabetic & low sodium diet." I hope staring at that for a few days will get the message through but I'm kind of doubting it.

Hospitals are getting more and more tech savvy. Medcenter One is wireless ready for patients and visitors. It came in very handy this weekend. I showed my Mom all about Facebook and online TV watching. She missed Thursday night's 30 Rock episode so I punched it up on NBC.com and voila! Instant watching for us!

I'm thinking I-94 is going to be all kinds of tore up this summer. Eastbound from Bismarck is not very nice I must say. Not looking forward to it.

Positive thought: only 59 days until vacation!!! NEEDS IT!!!

I got our Lily Allen tickets in the mail over the weekend. THEY ARE HUGE! Live Nation makes some big-ass tix. Zowie! April 20th at the Roseland Ballroom is where I will be.

Rhett Miller photos 2/08/09 Fine Line Music Cafe

This weekend was my first non-holiday weekend out of town since Halloween. It was very badly needed. The past several weeks have just been crazy and this weekend made up for it.

Here are the Rhett Miller photos from last night. Chandra, Allison, Greg, and I had a great time. We all can't wait to see him and/or the Old 97's again.

Oh yes, and Happy Birthday to my beeoootch Allison!

Sick days are borrrrrring

How creepy is it that I have been watching Lost for a while today and a plane crashes in the Hudson River? I thought it was a little weird.

I would say today was the perfect day to be sick. It was -30 degrees when I woke up at 5:30AM this morning. I made a sad attempt to get ready by taking a shower. Usually, that makes me feel better. Today, it made me feel worse. Dizzy, light-headed, etc. I would rather not have been sick and braved the weather. I hate being sick. I'm a big fan of being able to breathe and not having the chills.

I'm boring.

My brain is frozen.

It was -26 degrees Fahrenheit this morning. I'm going to crack...
